Dream Computer

Inspired by this, I am creating my own dream computer - but the price tag is slightly higher than his $95, despite using the cheapest available components. Note that I am not associated with any of these companies, but I am almost certainly an indirect shareholder in IBM due to some global funds that I have invested in. Also note that many of you are sitting on houses that are worth much more than this, so yes, by taking out a mortgage loan (or downgrading house), yes, you could afford one of these if you REALLY wanted one. Also note that all these components are available new and commercialy supported.

IBM LinuxONE 4 Express for $135,000 - this is a z16. Note that it comes with IFL processors and it is unclear whether IBM can legally stop z/PDOS-generic from being run on it or whether that would be considered illegal bundling - needs to be tested in small claims court by Judge Judy. Since I'm not an American citizen I will join forces with a Crack Whore with nothing to lose to get onto Judy's show assuming she is still alive and if so, if she is still doing her show.

Cisco MDS 9148T - but maybe 9132T would be cheaper - $51,000 (alternatively a CA Broadcom could be used)

Optica PRIZM FICON to ESCON adapter - approx $76k first year expense then $43.5k/year mandatory maintenance costs for subsequent years.

FSI FLEXCUB PCI card to emulate an FBA disk control unit - estimated $22,000.

An industrial desktop with a PCI (not PCIe) slot for the FLEXCUB - estimated $10,000

Total - approx $300,000 initial cost.

Electricity operating costs - unknown
